How to Stop Debt Collectors From Harassing You

In today’s economy it’s pretty easy to get behind in your bills.  And when that happens you might have to deal with debt collectors. Even though we have to take care of our bills, we do not have to be subjected to a lot of the downright disgusting tactics that some debt collection agencies resort to.  It’s possible to stop debt collectors in their tracks and beat debt collectors at their own game.

Even though many legitimate debt collection agencies are respectful of their clients, too many of them resort to intimidation, threats, and debt collector harassment. They pester you. They never leave you alone. And some of their tactics are so sneaky and sleazy they can bring you to tears.

Even though things are probably looking pretty bleak right now, you don’t have to take it.  You can fight back and turn the tables on them.

Here are a number of things you can consider doing.

The number one thing is that there is no need to put up with harassment.

You might request that they communicate to you in writing. This will get you their name and address along with their phone number.

You can use that information to research their company.  You want to see if they are a legitimate debt collection agency. If they are not you can report them - you can certainly stop debt collectors if they are taking illegal actions.

Having this information also gives you things in writing if you end up going to court.

One of the worst things you can do is give them any of your personal financial information over the phone.  If they begin pressuring you and start demanding that information, just tell them to put their requests in writing and send it to you.

And if they don’t stop pressuring you just hang up on them.

Now, if you use a cellular phone, why not add their phone number to your reject list? Why waste your time talking to these jerks?

And what’s even more of a problem is that they can be a lot worse than just being jerks. They might be downright thieves who got ahold of your account info and phone number.  It’s possible that they’re a slimy debt collection agency who will take money out of your account without your permission if you tell them the information they want.

Once again, never give out any personal information to debt collection agencies over the phone.
